Excerpt:

“No, because I’m not. Are you?” He didn’t wait for my answer. Just gently propelled me backwards until my back met the soft covering of the lichen-covered rocks and my hips tilted forward until I could feel the heat of his cock pressed hard against me.
“I’ve missed you so much, Sophie.” His hand slipped under my T-shirt burning a molten path up my body that left me whimpering. “Have you come back to torture me, show me what I’ve missed out on?”
I shook my head dumbly, because right now my brain hadn’t got the capacity to think, to answer questions, to do anything but pander to my body’s reactions.
“You shouldn’t have come back.” His voice was hoarse, his hand closed around my heavy breast, his thumb brushing over a nipple I knew was hard, but he was looking at me. Straight to the heart as they say.
“I had to.”
“Shit, Sophie.” And when he kissed me it wasn’t the exploration of yesterday it was hard, physical in a way that made me gasp, controlling and yet demanding, as though he had to catch up on all the years in between.
And it made me cry.
I clung to him, clung as though I was afraid he’d go, even though his hard body was pressed against mine, his mouth claiming mine. I could taste my salty tears as our teeth clashed, as his fingers meshed into my hair, as the hunger we’d both kept under control erupted. And I was shaking, trembling with need and anticipation as I tasted the lust in his mouth, felt the want in his body.
He grunted as the button of my jeans gave way for him and his hand forced its way into my panties, his fingers slipping into my wet channel. I lifted my leg, wrapped it round him, my hand on his face as we drank from each other. And all I could do was rock against him, clutch at him, lick him and kiss him as the tears gradually slowed to a stop and a hunger that scared me took its place.

Review

We have all had regrets in life, but not all of us regret leaving someone behind.  Imagine losing your family and your love all in one fell swoop and you have the start of this story.  After the devastation of losing her entire family and at the same time losing the love of her life, Sophie has finally gotten her life back on track.  The only thing she still needs is closure for that one horrible say that changed everything.  Only she hadn’t thought she might run into Him, and that changes everything.

I loved this book.  The emotional drama was palpable and you could actually feel the tension in the room while you were reading.  I loved it.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.

My Question:  Who is your favorite character and why?
My Answer:    My favorite character is Rysa, she is an amazing young lady who rises above her Attention issues to be a heroine to remember.

Conpuslio Blurb:
79 AD: Rome presses outward. Vesuvius smokes. Ladon exacts a terrible vengeance for an unthinkable act—and sets in motion the unavoidable collision of four people: Two Fates bound by the rigidity of the past and the arrogance of the future. One Shifter with a gift too vile to use. smoldering anger—and the weight of their soul’s ashes.
Conpuslio, a new novella set in the Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon universe, expands the story of Ladon and Dragon before they meet Rysa, the heroine of Games of Fate.  Set during the infamous night Vesuvius destroys Pompeii, Conpulsio asks two questions:  Who is bound?  Who is compelled?
Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon, a New Adult Urban Fantasy series with Strong Romantic Elements by Kris Austen Radcliffe, follows Rysa and Ladon—and Ladon’s companion beast, Dragon—through a landscape punctuated by unfamiliar creatures:  Fates with the ability to see past, present, and future.  Ghouls called Burners who devour with fire and acid.  Shifters who shape much more than their bodies.  And two dragons who speak with color and pattern.

GAMES OF FATE  Contains Adult Sexual Content and some violent imagery.
Rysa Torres misses information.  Loses concentration.  Her attention problems randomize her life but she pushes forward anyway, doing the best she can—until monsters activate a part of her she didn’t know she had.
As visions of the future whip inside her head, Rysa realizes the truth:  She’s a Fate.
And she will set fire to the world.
All her options explode.  Her family ripped away, what little control she had destroyed, Rysa is left with one choice:  Will she die to stop the coming flames, or will she allow the man and the dragon she loves to die in her place?
Games of Fate begins Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon, a new Urban Fantasy series with Strong Romantic Elements by Kris Austen Radcliffe.  Set in the open spaces of America, the series takes Rysa and Ladon—and Ladon’s companion beast, Dragon—through a landscape punctuated by unfamiliar creatures:  Fates with the ability to see past, present, and future.  Ghouls called Burners who devour with fire and acid.  Shifters who shape much more than their bodies.  And two dragons who speak with color and pattern.

It starts here, now, with one young woman’s fight against a burning future—and against the death of the man she loves.

PROLUSIO: Contains some violent imagery.

Three prelude short stories set in the Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon universe, Prolusio sets the stage for Games of Fate and Rysa and Ladon’s fight against a burning world.
Pop Rocks, a Texas tale of horror:  Billy Bare attempts his rock star comeback. Fire, though, has other ideas.
Welcome to the Dells, a Wisconsin tale of mercurial deceit and bad manners: Shifters fights and do what they do best—piss off Ladon.
Cinder to Dust, the prologue to Games of Fate:  Rysa’s mother, Mira, battles the one truth she cannot escape:  No one is as bound by fate as the Fates themselves.

Prolusio extends the Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon universe introduced in Games of Fate, a New Adult Urban Fantasy series with Strong Romantic Elements by Kris Austen Radcliffe.

BIO:  As a child, Kris took down a pack of hungry wolves with only a hardcover copy of The Dragonriders of Pern and a sharpened toothbrush.  That fateful day set her on a path traversing many storytelling worlds—dabbles in film and comic books, time as a talent agent and a textbook photo coordinator, and a foray into nonfiction.  After co-authoring Mind Shapes: Understanding the Differences in Thinking and Communication, Kris returned to academia.  But she craved narrative and a richly-textured world of Fates, Shifters, Burners, and Dragons—and unexpected, true love.

Kris lives in Minnesota with her husband, two daughters, an Handsome Cat, and an entire menagerie of suburban wildlife bent on destroying her house.  That battered-but-true copy of “Dragonriders”?  She found it yesterday.  It’s time to pay a visit to the woodpeckers.

Book Review of Red Rose Reaper
        Sponsored by Enchanted Book Tours

Welcome to Books, Books, and More Books.  I am pleased to share my review of this book with you.  Thank you for visiting and please come again.

Title: The Rose Red Reaper
Author: Kristi Loucks
Genre: Romantic Suspense/Thriller

Blurb :

Lt. Commander Mason Cole never intended to follow his brother into law enforcement, but the murder of a loved one gave him the motivation needed to take a position as the head of Chicago’s Serial Crimes Unit. Along with his brother, Detective Devon Cole, former FBI Profiler and Technical Analyst Melinda Kade and Detective Piper Torello, Mason is tasked with finding some of the cities most prolific serial killers.

As a former Navy SEAL, Mason has seen some of the worst the world has to offer, but nothing could have prepared him for his initiation into the world of a serial killer.

Their first case came with a gruesome introduction from a man who has given himself his own press ready moniker. Known for his macabre signature and the white rose he leaves at the scene with a calling card signed in blood,

THE ROSE RED REAPER

Mason and his team will pursue the killer through the vast streets of Chicago, across the affluent suburbs of the North Shore following cryptic clues left at each crime scene and pointing them to a web of violence dating back to The Reaper’s own childhood.

Complications begin to arise when The Reaper makes a connection to the woman that Mason loves. Dakota Rose Shelton. The stunning, raven-haired beauty that has carefully salvaged Mason’s broken heart may also be the key to ending The Reaper’s bloody reign. Left blind by a childhood illness, she must help them to assemble the pieces of the Reaper’s past with no visual memories to aid her.

Can Dakota help the team put the pieces together before The Reaper targets one of there own? And will she be able to fight off a killer that she cannot see?

Excerpt:

As they made their way into the building, Devon stopped to talk to the first officer on the scene. Mason sprinted up the stairs to see what kind of shape the victim was in and to see if he could get any kind of statement from her.

He pushed through the front door, only to find there was not one victim, but two. A male was positioned straight ahead and on the floor in front of him was a void in the shape of a small crouching person. However, drag marks indicated that the woman had pulled herself across the carpet into another part of the home where she had called 911.

Two victims at once in broad daylight and leaving a survivor weren’t the only things that were different with this crime scene. The male was in a sitting position with his back against a beam, his legs secured with zip ties and a pair of scalpels embedded in his hands extended above his head; his eyelids had been taped back so aggressively that you could see the space between his eyes and the orbital bone. And his carotid and brachial arteries had both been severed. This time, no tourniquets had been applied prior to making the incisions. His mouth had also been taped shut and based on the protrusion of his throat, the calling card was undoubtedly entombed with his last dying breath. There was an additional spray pattern on the victim as well as the floor surrounding him and three shallow knife wounds surrounded by substantial amounts of blood, more than he was likely to lose for wounds that shallow.

Mason went further into the home, following the trail of blood in search of the survivor, praying that she would be able to fill in the gaps before they transported her to the hospital. As he approached the kitchen, he saw one of the EMT’s coming out of the room.

“How is she?” Mason asked.

The EMT just shook his head and pointed him into the kitchen. When he got there, he saw the woman lying on the floor. Her breaths were shallow and raspy as she tried and failed to pull oxygen into her lungs. There was no precision to her injuries, and she was alive, both indicating that she was either the person he blamed for whatever wrong was committed against him, or that she wasn’t a part of the plan and he’d been forced to improvise when she interrupted. Her arms were covered in defensive wounds and there were four ever-expanding spirals of blood soaking her t-shirt from what appeared to be knife wounds.

Book Two Teaser:

Excerpt from Book Two of the Chicago Serial Crimes Series, The Blue Line Bone Collector

It had been unseasonably warm for early February in Chicago, but at two o’clock in the morning, the streets were still relatively quiet in Logan Square. Having lived in the city most of her life, Molly Shaw was no stranger to public transportation and she was always aware of what was happening around her.

She had just moved through the turnstile at the “El” station and she was headed towards the steps to the platform, when she noticed a tall thin man lurking in the shadows at the top of the landing. Her instincts put her on edge as she tried to get a read on him before ultimately turning back towards the street behind her. She could feel the rumble of the “El” as it coasted into the station above them, and she prayed that the man would be lured towards the train.

As she made it back to the turnstiles, she chanced a look back in the direction of the stairs. When she didn’t see the man, she breathed a sigh of relief while she berated herself for her evident paranoia. Her relief was short lived. When she turned back toward the exit, Molly caught a glimpse of the man as he reached out from her right side.

She gasped as she saw the glint of a steel blade and tried to scream as his hand clamped over her mouth, just before the blade tore through her skin.

“Such lovely bone structure,” he whispered, staring at the blood that coated her skin and running his thumb over the bones of her wrist.

Molly was fixated on the blood that ran in thin rivulets across the veins protruding from the back on her hand. That was when she noticed the markings that covered the hand of the man who held her captive.

Though she was spared further contemplation of those markings when pain shot through her system. Molly cried out behind his hand, which reeked of bleach and cigarettes, as she heard the sickening crackle and pop of bone and ligaments when he savagely wrenched her arm back at an awkward angle. In an instant, her survival instincts kicked into high gear, briefly drowning out the pain.

She fought hard as he pulled her back towards the shadows from which he’d emerged, slamming her forehead against the rail as she struggled against him. She could feel the warmth of her blood as it ran down her temple. She frantically dug through her bag, which hung to her left side, looking for anything that would give her a moment’s advantage.

Her fingers finally gripped her salvation, a tiny bottle of pepper spray that Devon had given her a few weeks back. She’d thought it was ridiculous at the time, but if she got out of this, she was certain she would kiss him for his part in her escape.

She quickly slammed her eyes shut as she sent a burst of the pepper spray over her right shoulder in the direction of her attacker, feeling the burn against her own skin as well.

The moment she felt his fingers open slightly, she bit down as hard as she could on the hand covering her mouth and flung her head back towards his face. He fell backwards as her skull connected with his and she quickly flung herself towards the turnstiles and out towards the street in the hopes that a car or a taxi might stop for her. Her only hope was that the man wouldn’t pursue her with witnesses.

Review

I was excited about this book that I actually had my Kindle read it to me while I cleaned house because I didn’t want to wait to find out what happened  (and the kindle voice is pretty bad and mispronounces words all over the place).  I was hooked and hanging on every word before the first chapter ended.  Now I can’t wait for the next one.  In fact the blurb has me on tender hooks.  Not sure I can wait very long…. So if the author is reading this…I’m up to review the next one, or beta read, or whatever as long as I get to read it soon.  I’m very worried about Molly.

Okay, this is a definite buy for everyone… especially if you like mysteries.  The heroine was a kick as she was totally not what you would expect and yet totally just what was needed. And no I’m not telling you why but I loved that she was differently-abled.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds and plan to re-read it soon…… while I waste away waiting for book 2 (hint, hint)

Excerpt:

Godfrey and Chucky discover a great way to fly.

Just like Master Gawd’s fast car, this big bird-like thing has seatbelts. We watched a TV program where the Singapore Airlines girls, called SIA girls, showed us how to evacuate in the event of an emergency. I looked around and noticed that very few people were paying attention to the TV program, and my master himself was alternating his gaze between the dinner menu and the SIA girls that walked down the aisle. From the behavior of my fellow passengers, I could only conclude that air emergencies did not happen very frequently, so I felt reassured. They sound quite scary, these emergencies.

My master proclaimed, “They should have given us bigger seats, don’t you think. There’s just barely enough space for me to stretch my legs. What if one of those hot girls comes to sit on my lap?” He slouched forward and wiggled his feet.

“They seem to be busy standing up and walking about to get us things, master,” I replied, trying to defend the air servants.

“We might even have been short-changed, Chucky. Look at this picture,” said master, pointing to the Krisflyer magazine. “They got these first-class seats where you can like, lie down and roll about. That’s the way it should be, don’t you think?”

“Yes, master. I guess they only have it for the bigger planes.”

“They gave us a small plane, Chucky. This sucks.”

I was feeling a little upset because my master was not too satisfied with our business class seats. It is very important that servants work hard for the sake of higher authorities. I was actually quite happy that we could get tickets just like that with our credit card, but I did not dare to mention it to my master in case he would get angry. Usually when I book the train in the Eastern Heaven, I have to make reservations beforehand.

Now, I was expecting this to be an unpleasant flight for my master, but it turned out that things went the other way. The SIA ladies started to walk down the aisle and gave us these strange-looking black things wrapped in a see-through bag. There was one lady on Master’s aisle, wearing the interesting dress with the shape of the female body and hair rolled up into a bun with a neat, shiny side-parting. There was one lady on my aisle too, wearing the same interesting dress with the shape of the female body and hair rolled up into a bun with a neat, shiny side-parting. Both had a mild smile on their faces and were walking down the aisles at about the same speed. When the lady walking down Master Gawd’s aisle met Master Gawd, her smile widened and she started talking a lot in a loud voice. Master Gawd greeted her and introduced himself as ‘Great Godfrey’, and she chuckled and introduced herself as ‘Mindy Wong’. Master mentioned that it was his ‘first time on your wonderful airline’ and she proceeded to explain to Master that she was giving him headsets for entertainment and that her beautiful dress was called the Sarong Kebaya. Her English pronunciation was not the most clear and I think I might have heard ‘headsex’ but I probably was mistaken. From my master’s reaction and smiling face, the lady must have been quite beautiful and pleasing to his taste.

When the lady walking down my aisle met me, her already-thin smile almost vanished. She took out a yellow piece of headset and passed it to me in silence before moving on really quickly. The yellow headset felt a little tight as I spread it around my ears. I was fumbling about with the controls while Master Gawd was already fully plugged in and flipping through the channels. Then the most mysterious thing happened: the same SIA girl whom I saw just a short while ago comes down the aisle once again. This time she looked at me, with the same face as before, and spoke: “I’m sorry sir, my colleague just now gave you the wrong headset, which is for children. Here is the correct one.” She passed me a black headset just like the one everybody else had.

I am blinking my eyes looking at this same SIA girl who I saw moments ago. I think the take-off is making me imagine things, don’t you think?

“Is there anything else I can get you, sir?”

“Sorry…I mean no. Well, I don’t know, it’s my first time. Never mind.” I stammered.

The colleague who looked the same as the same-looking colleague I met before, walked off briskly, leaving me to my confusion. Perhaps this is what the ancient sages call ‘mystery of mysteries’.

When I was going to the washroom, the curtain happened to be drawn and down the aisle I noticed a whole new area to the aircraft with many people inside. The seats looked smaller than ours, and every seat had someone in it. They were being served by a male steward, and when I asked him what this area was, he stared at me with a confused look, and replied “This is economy class, sir.” I felt somewhat relieved that I was not the only confused man on the aircraft. This economy class seems to be quite popular though.

Our dinner was served to us in small boxes. Master Gawd exchanged many words and glances with Mindy. I was not used to the descent to Changi Airport, so I threw up into the throw-up bag. I felt a bit embarrassed, but Master Gawd did not seem to mind.
