A trip to the top secret military testing base, commonly known as Area 51, was a dream come true for UFO obsessed Xander Bookman - until a strange voice invaded his thoughts. Book Excerpts
Excerpt #1
“Help me, I really need to go home.”
“Who said that?” Xander spun around. The voice sounded like it was right behind him.  There was no one there.  Yzzie, Betty, Bert, Randy and Randy’s dad were all focused on the the valley below.
“Wait! You can hear me!” the voice spoke again. “You can hear me… It has been so long… Finally, I can speak to someone.”
Xander stood perfectly still.  What was happening to him.  Buzzing was one thing, but voices.  That couldn’t be good.
“Yzzie, can you come over and help me with this?” Xander called to his cousin.
‘Why is this happening to me?’ Xander thought to himself.
“Yes, why you?” the voice said. “You’re the first human that can hear me.”
‘You can hear my thoughts?’
“Yes, I’ve been able to access the minds  of some humans, not many -- perhaps one in a hundred, but you are the first that I’ve been able to communicate with and believe me, I’ve tried,” the voice told him.
“What do you need, Xander?” Yzzie asked, arriving at the telescope.
“You know that annoying buzzing noise I was hearing,” Xander said to her. “Well, it’s gone.”
“That’s great!” Yzzie said.
“Not so great,” Xander shrugged, “now I’m hearing voices in my head.”
“Just one voice,” the voice corrected him.
“You’re right,” Xander said, glancing skyward, then back at Yzzie, “it’s just one voice.”
“This is bad,” Yzzie said, her eyes clouding with worry.
“No, this is good,” the voice said. “I really need your help.”
“What is the voice saying?” Yzzie asked, once she was sure the others were out of earshot.
“It’s not sure why I’m the only one that can hear it and that it needs my help,” Xander told her.
“Help with what?” she asked.
‘Escape,’ the voice said, ‘I need your help to escape.’
“Escape from where?” Xander asked outloud.
“The voice wants out of your head.” Yzzie looked puzzled.
“I’m in a lab deep below Hangar 18,” the voice explained.
“Here? You mean from inside Area 51?” Xander asked.
“Yes,” the voice answered.

Very cute book about two cousins who have incredible adventures.  In this one, they go to Area 51 on vacation and rescue the Roswell Grey alien.  It was well written and funny.

This would be the perfect book for a young reader, especially one who is interested in space and aliens.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.

Giveaway and Book Review of Portals

Book Review of Portals

Sponsored by Mythbehaving Book Tours

Welcome to Books, Books, and More Books.  I am pleased to share this book with you.  Thank you for visiting and please come again.

About the Book
For supernatural detectives Thulu and La Fi, “normal” is a relative term. La Fi is a medium, Thulu is a finder, and their usual clients are already dead.
But when their friend Reo is shot, and a group of stranded angels shows up at their house for help finding a missing child, things are striking too close to home.
And the portals that let the magical races return to Earth are opening on their own.
With trips off-world, a kidnapped psychic and changes to their own abilities, Thulu and La Fi are hit with a lot more than they usually handle. Of course, their magical friends are there to help, but even they may not be enough to save an increasingly unstable Earth.
Portals is the cross genre (Sci Fi/Urban Fantasy) sequel to Relics and is Book 2 in the Modern Magics series.

This is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone.  Some of the topics might have been clearer if the first book had been read, but everything important was presented in the book so it was not a necessity.

The story is about what would happen if supernatural being from other worlds could suddenly come to earth.  Imagine meeting a fairy, elf, dragon, unicorn, or other supernatural creature in real life.  How would people react?  And some people can do supernatural things, like see and hear the dead.

The mythology for this story is fascinating. I give this story 4.5 out of 5 clouds.

Without consciously making a decision to do so, I grabbed my robe and headed for the door. If the thief was in the house, it might be my chance to identify him or her. One last glance at the globe showed the black was now mixed with a lot of orange. It looked like a Halloween decoration.

I turned off the light in the room, then quietly unlocked and opened my door. A flashlight would be a big help, but mine was packed in my suitcase. This was the first time I’d needed it. I eased out into the dark hall. A nightlight plugged in at the top of the stairs made a dim glow and I started in that direction. Moving slowly, I listened intently for any unusual noise. Everything seemed quiet and peaceful. I didn’t think anyone had stayed overnight in the house except Naomi and me. The stairs were solid and didn’t make a sound as I crept down. Time moved in slow motion and it seemed to take forever to reach the bottom. Once there, I began making my way to the living room. We always turned off the electronic security on that door at night since there were no potential buyers coming in and out after five. Even though I still hadn’t seen anything suspicious, somehow the

atmosphere seemed wrong. Danger seemed to lurk in every dark corner. I was anxious to make sure the items displayed for viewing hadn’t been disturbed. Moving into the room and closing the door seemed to take forever. I couldn’t wait to get the light turned on. At first glance everything looked fine. Walking around the items for a closer look, I still didn’t see any evidence of tampering. Maybe I was overreacting and chasing ghosts. I decided to return to my room, but instead I veered into the study for a quick look. I wasn’t quite ready to admit my fears were just my nerves playing tricks. This time I hadn’t done the smart thing and called for Dan. He had to be tired of my crying wolf and not finding any evidence. I’d need a darn good reason before choosing to disrupt the entire household again.

At first the study also seemed undisturbed, but as my eyes adjusted, my heart skipped a beat. Someone had pushed the button that moved the desk aside. The light on the stairs leading down into the passageway had been turned on. Someone had entered the house, but I couldn’t call Dan from here and didn’t want to lose the chance to discover the identity of the intruder. All of a sudden my policy of not crying wolf didn’t seem so wise. I picked up a large letter opener from the desk and started down the stairs. The cloying feeling of danger increased with each step. The second bookcase on the left hand side of the hall was moved aside, revealing a passage I hadn’t known existed. The walls in this new passage were lined with artwork. Creeping silently along, I noticed that the art consisted of a variety of styles. At a quick glance I saw pen-and-ink, charcoals, watercolors and oils. I wouldn’t know what all was there until I had time to investigate. Right now my attention was focused on finding out who was down here and why. The passage climbed steadily upward. There didn’t seem to be any side doors, at least none that were obvious, until the end of the passage. Here one door opened to the right. By now my sense of direction had become confused and I wasn’t sure what part of the house this passage ran through, but it might be somewhere on the second floor.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series.  The author does a wonderful job of making the characters come alive.  I am a huge fantasy fan and this book fits the bill.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.
