Book Excerpts

Cassie looked up at her in shock. Puck could see her eyes were the same blue as her mother’s, but Puck watched them darken to a deep violet. Her own eyes widened in shock.
“Fox,” Cassie whispered in a voice so low, Puck might not have heard her if her hearing had been back to normal. All the hair on Puck’s body stood up and goose-bumps rose along her arms and on the back of her neck.
Okay. There’s nothing scary about a girl who looks at you and knows exactly what you are and says so in a voice that sounds possessed with demons. What is with this girl?
Puck stared at her. The girl shook her Shirley Temple curls until they bounced high and then looked at Puck. “I did it again, didn’t I?”
“What?” Puck squeaked. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Did what again?”
She frowned. “What did I say?”
“Fox,” Puck told her. “You just looked at me and said fox.” She realized her voice was low, and she recognized the fear crawling through her. This girl had looked at her and known exactly what she was without a thought.
What was that all about?
Her brow furrowed. “I’m sorry. That happens every once in a while when people look me in the eye. I can see souls.” Her eyes had returned to their blue state. “At least that’s what I think I can do.”
Puck sunk down on the couch. Her legs could no longer hold her standing. “Does this have anything to do with why your mother doesn’t seem to want you alone in the house?”
Cassie shook her head. “No. That’s… complicated.”
Puck laughed. “Don’t worry. I know complicated. I bet you could tell me, and I wouldn’t give it a second thought.”
Cassie looked up at her, and she noticed the girl was really looking at her now, as if she hadn’t seen her before.
Did she not look at me before because of her soul-searching ability?
“You have yellow eyes!” the girl cried. “Just like—”
“A fox? I know.” She patted the couch and Cassie fell rather than sat. She stared at Puck, her mouth open wide enough to let in a whole slew of flies. “You tell me your story, and I’ll tell you mine.”

About the Book

Title: Bright’s Passion

Author: E.B. Black

Genre: Fantasy Romance

Bright wishes he wasn't the god of the suns.

Every day is the same: he makes the suns rise and then they set. He looks down at humanity's corruption. He watches wars, people starving, and thieves stealing.

He can't help. Every time he tries, the humans take something from him. They've destroyed his family and he has no doubt that they'd like to destroy him, too.

Adonya is a raven-haired witch with powers that make her as close to a goddess as a human can be. He's wondered what it was like to be with a woman, but all the goddesses are dead.

He can feel it when he touches her--she's as dangerous as all the rest of the humans. Can the power of love join their races together? Or will one of them wind up dead in the end?

Review:

Intesting mythos about the gods of the sun and moon.  I love stories with intersting mythos.  I found these characters to be flawed and passionate.  I cannot wait until the next book comes out.

The characters come alive and draw you into their world in magnificent color and motion.

I give this story 4 out of 5 clouds.
