Nook 8HG Tablet Giveaway and Review of Anger Mastery: Get Angry, Get Happy by Kevin B. Burk

Book Review of Anger Mastery: Get Angry, Get Happy by Kevin B. Burk

New Self-Help Book for Review: Anger Mastery: Get Angry, Get Happy by Kevin B. Burk + Nook 8HG Tablet Giveaway
Blurb:

Author Kevin B. Burk wants to make you angry. Burk believes that getting angry is the first step to happiness, and his newest book, Anger Mastery: Get Angry, Get Happy shows you how.

“Anger is like fire,” says Burk. “When you master it, it’s a powerful source of energy. If you don’t master it, however, it can be dangerous and destructive.” More importantly, Burk asserts, until you master your anger, other people will steal your energy, your power, and your ability to be happy.
The Anger Mastery Process has three phases. In Phase 1, you learn how to use more of your own energy, which makes it harder for other people to steal it from you. (This involves going to the gym at least five times a week.) You also learn how to leave Victim Consciousness and move into integrity by answering the question, “Whose business is it?”
Phase 2 of the Anger Mastery process helps you to stay out of Victim Consciousness by learning how to feel Safe. You meet your Safety Needs with a tool called the Present Moment Awareness Safety Meditation, available for free at www.GetAngryGetHappy.com.
By the time you complete Phase 2, you will already notice significant changes in your life. In particular, you will have considerably more energy. Phase 3 shows you how to use that energy to become truly, completely happy.
Anger Mastery is not your typical book on anger. Not only is Burk’s approach unique, but also the book itself is laugh-out-loud funny. “Humor is a powerful tool to shift consciousness,” said Burk. “Laughter instantly transforms anger. Plus, funny sells more books.”

Book Excerpt:
Chapter 1
Welcome to the Matrix

Good morning. This is your wake-up call.
It’s time for you to make a choice: the Red Pill or the Blue Pill. If you choose the Red Pill, your life will never be the same. You will wake up and face the reality of how unhappy you are. However, you will also learn what you can do about it, and receive the tools that you can use to become truly happy. If you choose the Blue Pill, you’ll go on with your life and continue to believe whatever you choose to believe.
Make your choice and take your pill now.
Ok. I’ll admit, this worked a lot better in The Matrix. For one thing, in The Matrix there were actual pills. I wanted to include real pills with this book, but you wouldn’t believe how much that was going to cost. Instead, you’ll have to make do with virtual pills.
If you chose the Blue Pill, you’re finished with this book. Why don’t you go back and re-read the Harry Potter series? (They’re classics, and they hold up.)
If you chose the Red Pill, keep reading. It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.

It’s time you put aside your fantasies about winning the lottery or becoming famous, or having the perfect body, and wake up to your reality. This will not be a pleasant awakening, because your reality is pretty awful. Life is a constant struggle. No matter how hard you work, things are not improving. You have more stress and less money today than you did a year ago. You’re not happy. You haven’t been happy for so long that you don’t know what happy is anymore. And worst of all, you don’t have enough energy to do anything about it.
The reason you don’t have enough energy to improve your life is that other people are stealing it from you.
This might surprise you. After all, you would never let someone siphon gas from your car or steal your electricity. And yet, every single day, you let other people steal the most important energy you have. The more energy they steal from you, the more you struggle, and the harder your life gets; and the harder your life gets, the more you struggle, and the more energy they steal from you.
This energy is more vital and more useful than gas or electricity. You don’t even realize how important this energy is. And as long as you remain ignorant of how to control and channel this energy, other people will steal it from you and make you a victim.
Does this make you mad? Good! Because the energy I’m talking about is anger, and when you learn how to master your anger, you can avoid ever being a victim again.
Your anger is very powerful. Your anger can help you to get everything you want. Ultimately your anger can help you to become truly happy. But first, you have to learn to master your anger. If you don’t master your anger, it will master you, and you will continue to be victimized and manipulated. You will waste more energy, and feel less happy. In other words, your life will continue exactly as it is now.
Why Master Your Anger?
Mastering your anger is important, because when you master your anger, it will be harder to manipulate you. Anger is an emotion. When you get emotional, you stop thinking clearly, and you’re far more likely to say and do things that you will regret later. This is why it’s so easy to manipulate angry people into believing, saying, and doing things they would never consider in a rational state of mind.
Anger is like fire: it’s a powerful source of energy, but you have to know how to control it. When you consciously direct the energy of your anger, it becomes a positive, creative force in your life that can help you to become truly happy. If you don’t consciously direct the energy of your anger, it becomes dangerous and destructive. Anger can lead to aggression, rage and violence. If you don’t give it an outlet, it can cause severe, debilitating depression. Either way, it turns you into a weak, impotent victim, and allows other people to steal your energy and your power.
By the time you finish reading this book, you’ll understand the reasons why all of this is true. More importantly, by the time you finish reading this book, it will be much harder for other people to manipulate you and steal your energy.
Of course, if you do more than just read this book—if you actually follow the Anger Mastery Process and do the work—you’ll gain control over your life, and finally be happy.
Before any of this can happen, though, you have to wake up and face the reality of your life. You have to face the fact that most of the time you’re angry, afraid, and miserable. Before you can take back your power, you have to accept the fact that right now, you are a victim. Every day, other people are stealing your power and energy from you.
Shall We Play a Game?
You’ve spent most of your life playing a game. When you first chose to play this game, you didn’t know all of the rules, but you played anyway, because all the cool kids were playing it. This game is about money and power. The objective of the game is to get as much money (and power) as possible. In this game, there’s a fixed and limited supply of money, so the only way to get money is to take it away from other players. How much money you can get is determined by how much money you have: the more you have, the more you can get. The only way to win the game is to get all of the money.
You don’t care about money or power; what you care about is happiness. You play the game because you believe that when you get enough money or power, then you’ll be happy. This, however, is a lie. Happiness is not a part of this game.
You are barely a pawn in this game. As long as you play this game, you will be a victim. Other people will control and manipulate you to further their own agenda. Other players will lie to you to keep you invested in the game, so they can steal your money and your power. You have absolutely no chance of winning this game. The only way to win this game is not to play.
The good news is that you don’t have to keep playing this game. When you learn how to master your anger, you can stop playing it, and no one will be able to steal your power anymore.

Book Review:

This book is funny… very funny, but it’s also serious when it needs to be.  I was a little leery when I saw all the Zodiac books since I’m SO not into that, but this book is written in layman’s terms with lots of commons sense, enough humor to keep you reading, really good points, and specific, hands-on, right now tasks to work through.

This is not a quick fix, or read the book and absorb what you need by osmosis.  You have to put in the work. So far, I like what I’ve done… Okay I don’t really like the exercise, but let’s face it… I should have been doing this all along.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds and strongly recommend reading it.

ABOUT ALICIA SINGLETON

Born and raised in Philadelphia, the Howard University graduate embraced the written word at an early age. She credits this to her loving, older sister whom, while they were youngsters, made the author eat lotion on a regular basis. Realizing the need to sound-out the ingredients on the lotion label, Alicia stopped the lotion-eating practice, but continued to read the labels of the concoctions her sister brought for her to try. This early necessity to read flowered to a passion; hence, a writer was born. The award winning author resides in Maryland with her wonderful husband and son.  Still an avid reader, label or otherwise, Alicia is hard at work completing her next suspense novel. Her latest book is the suspense novel, Dark Side of Valor.

Book Review:

This book was amazing, yet it was also one of the hardest books I’ve ever read.  Leila works getting runaways and such off the streets and into safety because she was once on the streets.  In fact, she almost died because she refused to work for the pimp that ran the street she lived on.  On the day she decided to get help and get out she got caught and was shot and left to die.  The 13 year old child she had been helping and protecting died in her arms from an illness that was the final straw that led her to find help.

She never let go of that moment.  It haunted her for years.  Even during the biggest trial of her life which involved a fight for her life.  Her life seemed to be one HUGE hurdle after another, but she was strong and a fighter and got her happy ending.

I have worked with Child Protective Services, specifically in the adoption department and in Foster Family Agency placements (for the harder to place kids).  It’s a hard job.  It tears at your soul.  That was part of what made this so difficult to read.  I’ve seen what she’s seeing and has seen.  The ones you lose are the hardest to deal with because it takes part of you.

The book is haunting, uplifting, scary, sad, happy, gritty, funny, and hopeful.  It is not an easy read; this is not an easy subject.  However it is definitely work reading.  I highly recommend every adult read it, and any child who is thinking of running away because things at home are bad needs to read it also.  If things are really that bad at home, you have other choices… Please choose something besides the streets.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds.

Book Review:

Aislinn and Dylan are back on Nirvana and married.  It’s time to meet with the council and plan the rescue for Aislinn’s parents.  They are also learning about their new enemy while still keeping an eye on the battleground that is earth.

I love this series.  Every new revelation adds a new twist or turn to the story.  Now that they are back on Nirvana the characters have new names, which can be confusing at times.  In this book, Aislinn and Dylan are planning to find out about the Klatrians, the enemy that arrived on Nirvana while they were away on Earth on their mission.  The Klatrians are the ones who hold Aislinn’s parents hostage and no-one even knows what they look like.

I give part 8 of the Samsara Chronicles 4 out of 5 clouds.

Review of Pack of Lies

Book Review of Pack of Lies

Book Synopsis:

Blurb:

The last thing Allison Wright ever expected when she moved to Red Ridge, New Mexico was to come muzzle to muzzle with the wolf of her dreams.

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Allison Wright is convinced she’s losing her mind. Uncontrollable mood swings, hot flashes, and the urge to punch anyone who gets in her way are suddenly becoming everyday occurrences. Before her erratic behavior gets out of hand, Allison’s mother finally comes clean about her dark secret. Mom is a werewolf, and soon Allison and her brother Aiden will suffer the same fate. When Allison reaches her breaking point, the family leaves their life in Texas to move to Red Ridge, New Mexico where they rejoin the pack that Allison’s mother left behind almost 20 years ago.

Unfortunately, not everyone in Red Ridge is thrilled about Allison’s arrival, especially when she attracts the attention of the very handsome, very taken, soon-to-be alpha, Cade Walker. Little does Allison know, her mere presence is causing a rift in a once unified pack. Not only has Cade been forbidden from being with Allison by his father, the pack’s alpha, Cade’s girlfriend, Kendall Stuart, will stop at nothing to get Allison out of the picture. Well on her way to becoming the next alpha’s mate, Kendall expects to rule the pack by Cade’s side even if it means teaming up with a rogue werewolf with an agenda of his own. Determined to get rid of Allison permanently, when Kendall and the rogue join forces, all hell breaks loose and no one in the pack is safe, especially not Cade and his true mate.

Book excerpt:
“I picked up on a scent that stopped all thought, all movement, leaving me standing completely still, breathing in a smell that I would never forget. A mix of earth, and musk, and honeysuckle, and sandalwood filled my senses leaving me with a need, a need to find this thing that was suddenly making me salivate, suddenly making me ache with desperation.
Without hesitation, my nose hit the ground as I began to track the enticing smell. I didn’t look up. I didn’t stop moving. I didn’t stop to think about what I might find. None of it mattered. I needed to find the source of that wonderful scent.
In the near distance, I heard a rustling in the brush, which ceased the mission that had held me spellbound. I stopped dead in my tracks and looked around, spooked by what I might find, but what I saw was the last thing I expected.
Peering out from behind a tall oak, a wolf was watching me. We just stood still, staring at each other, neither of us moving a muscle. His amazing green eyes were in sharp contrast to his deep, dark fur. He was a much bigger wolf than me, strong and lean, and the glint in his eyes told me that he was no ordinary wolf.”

Book Review:

This is a fun story.  Imagine growing up thinking that your extended family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. are all dead.  Then suddenly all your friends are picking fights with you, are jealous of you, and you haven’t done anything different that you have ever done before.  After getting into your 3rd fight at school, your parents decide to tell you that your mom is a werewolf and has been on the lamb from her family because she was supposed to marry the alpha of her pack but fell in love with your dad (a human) instead.  Yeah, I would have called the loony bin personally.  But for Allison, this is her new life.  And because of all these changes she, her brother, and her parents are moving to a remote mountain area to live with her mother’s wolf pack.  Kind of makes your teenage problems seem miniscule in comparison, doesn’t it?

This story is romantic, adventurous, suspenseful, funny, scary, sad, happy, exciting, and tense.  It is also a great read, especially for someone who enjoys paranormal books.  And if you enjoy shifter stories, then this is a must read.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.

ABOUT SPIDER BRAINS
If one were to bake the story SPIDER BRAINS into a cake, they should sprinkle in Charlotte’s Web, toss in one Jellicle Cat, then stir in a little Spiderman—but as a girl and not in that goofy latex outfit! A tale of hope, transformation, transition and inspiration.
After her father’s death last year and, now, in the throes of a gnarly teacher’s whim as she thinks ahead to college (or really just dreams of getting into college), a small black arachnid bites fifteen-year-old Susie Speider on the finger. The bite sends her nights into fantastical dreams about taking revenge on a teacher who, ultimately, holds her college aspirations in the palm of her cold calloused hand. But, after Susie figures out the dreams are real, she ups the ante by visiting the teacher regularly… as the spider! And, oh, by the way! Who is that boy spider munching on flies, hiding over there in the corner? A story of loss and forgiveness, tolerance and kindness, Susie Speider deals with the death of her father while Matt Ryder–the new neighbor boy–has just lost his mother. Ultimately, SPIDER BRAINS poses some important questions about how to treat Attention-Deficit-Disorder.

Book Review:

Spider Brains is a cute coming of age story about a girl who endures serious abuse from one teacher at school and teasing from her peers due to her ADHD.  However, when a spider bites her she gains control over her ADHD and her ability to do well in school improves in all her classes but one.  Through it all she learns lessons about friendship, loyalty, and coping with loss.

This is a cute story, kind of Spiderman meets Charlotte’s web.  It is a smooth read with beautifully descriptive language and many laugh out loud moments.  My 13 year old son read it and thought it was “cool, but would have been better if it was about a boy instead of a girl.  And she should have been able to poison the teacher.”  My son is still in the boys are cool and girls are gross stage.  And since I already have a 16 year old girl with boy crazy friends I’m good with waiting on having a girl crazy boy.

I give this  book 4 out of 5 clouds.
