Because it was FREE! Challenge

Because it was FREE!

In this challenge, you’ll be reading all – or at least some – those free books you’ve downloaded just because they were free. And here's how you'll do it...

BOOK CATEGORIES

Each book you read must fit into one of the four categories below.
Get Shorty                        0 – 70 pages / up to 30,000 words
Nifty Novella                  71 – 150 pages / up to 90,000 words
Novel Love                    151 – 250 pages / up to 200,000 words
Going Epic                     251 + pages / 200,001 words and up

LEVELS

Choose the level you want to begin with. See The Twist below before making your decision.

Parsimonius Polly: 9 + FREE books per month
To reach Parsimonius Polly, you will need to read books in all four categories each month. At least 3 x Going Epic, max. 3 x Get Shorty. Remaining books may be in any category.

Miserly Molly: 7 – 8 FREE books per month
To reach Miserly Molly, you will need to read books in all four categories each month. At least 2 x Going Epic, at least 2 x Nifty Novella, max. 2 x Get Shorty. Remaining books may be in any category.

Niggard Nelly: 5 – 6 FREE books per month
To reach Niggard Nelly, you will need to read 1 book in all four categories each month. Remaining books may be in any category.

Thrifty Tilly: 3 – 4 FREE books per month
To reach Thrifty Tilly, you will need to read at least 1 x Going Epic. You may NOT read a Get Shorty. Remaining books may be in any category.

Saithe Shelly: 2 FREE books per month
To reach Saithe Sally, you will need to read 1 x Going Epic and 1 x Nifty Novella each month.

But what is a Kick Challenge without a twist…?

1. You can downgrade your level once, or upgrade as many times as you wish, but if you have upgraded even once, you can't downgrade any more.

2. Book(s) that you have received as gifts, prizes, or for the purpose of reviewing do not count. Book(s) must currently be or have previously been available for download for free from any bookseller site, author site, or from another legal source.

3. You can read max. 2 books written by the same author. This includes known aliases. Despite the name on the cover, if the same person has written more than 2 books on your list, the highest scoring of them will not count toward your goal.

4. Update your original post. Use the add author/book feature, covers or links. Note the date when you finished reading the book.

          Challenge duration: January 1st – June 30th, 2014.

1.       But my book has different page count on Goodreads and Amazon. Whose pagecount is correct?

Your ebook seller's information should be more accurate, use that. If the book's page count is not mentioned anywhere, go by word count. If that's not mentioned anywhere, pick a different book.

2. I can't find a book to read as Nifty Novella. Can I substitute it with Novel Love?

No. Bookseller sites are FULL of free books for each category. They may not be what you would normally read, but this is a challenge. It's not about reading what you want, it's about meeting your target.

3. Can I read books from Netgalley?

No. Netgalley is a platform whose purpose is to sonnect reader/reviewer and publisher, and whoever puts a book up on Netgalley expects the downloader to review it. Thus, all books gotten via Netgalley are downloaded with the purpose of reviewing them.
Trying to reach Niggard Nelly, you will need to read 1 book in all four categories each month. Remaining books may be in any category.

Get Shorty 0 – 70 pages
Nifty Novella 71 – 150 pages
Novel Love 151 – 250 pages
Going Epic 251 + pages
