Title: The Reborn: The Book of Dain

Author: Casse Narome

Genre: YA Paranormal

Dain has lived a total of ninety-nine different lifetimes and in every single one, he has loved the same girl.

Their past is marred by ill-fated romance and almost encounters.

Evil forces have conspired to keep the two of them apart and it seems to have succeeded ...

Tara is gone, and in her place stands Bonnie, the complete opposite of Tara.

Is Dain's shot at love over or has he lived all these lives because he has loved the wrong girl all along?

A hundred chances at love ... and it comes down to only one.

Author Bio

Casse Narome is the alter-ego of a self-proclaimed awesome weirdo who spent her childhood reading and daydreaming. As an adult that is also how she spends her time only now she writes her daydreams down for everyone to read. Casse is never serious, has been accused of wishing her life was a sitcom, laugh track and all, has a bad habit of talking out loud to herself and she is fine with being a little insane.

She spends way too much time online, too much money buying books and laughing at her own jokes. You will find her on Twitter being very random and spewing her opinions. When you see her online, tell her to get back to her writing! Or just engage her in a hilarious random conversation.

Book Excerpt

Bonnie folded her arms and glared at me. Akila looked back and forth between us, obvious concern creasing her forehead.

“Do you want me to talk to her?” she whispered, as she stood at my side and kicked at the fallen leaves. She was having as much fun with them as a kid would.

“I don‘t think it would help. She knows the entire situation, and she still doesn‘t see it my way.”

“Have you tried your hardest, or did you flash her that smile of yours and give up when she didn‘t drool over it?”

“Kila, I—I am trying, but there hasn‘t really been time.”

“Dylan, take the time. Even I can see something is wrong, and that you aren‘t happy. Rage just pours from you, and I‘m familiar with that kind of anger—trust me. Let it go, sweetheart, let it go.”

“I can‘t. He took the one person I loved from me,” I declared, through clinched teeth. I hated the one person I couldn‘t make pay. The bastard was protected by being locked inside of me. I would have to find comfort in the fact that I had finally gotten rid of him. Forever.

“She is right there.”

“She will be the first to tell you, she isn‘t.” I walked away, but Akila stopped me with a hand on my shoulder, turning me until I faced her.

“I know you are badass, Superman, but you can‘t take on the world.”

“Not the world.”

She grinned. “Well, just remember you have friends if you need them.”

“You, the ball buster?” I teased. She was more of a brat than a ball buster.

“Yes me! Why won‘t anyone believe me? Is it my looks?” She stomped her foot and totally made my point for me.

“Yeah! You are like a size zero. You will break a bone if the wind blows.”

“Shut up!”

“Thank you, Akila.”

She nodded and pulled me into a hug. “Anytime.”

Review:

I love that this book brings history into the present by having the characters having lived past lives.   I especially love Akila being so many beautiful women from history and how Dylan morphs into his regal, arrogant self from the past.

While I have read books that have nefarious agencies messing with kids, this is the first one I have read with this particular premise and it is very well written with continuity and seamlessness in the storyline.  But I hated that it ended in the middle of a storyline.  So when book 2 is available for review, please keep me in mind because I’m dying to know what happens next.  Seriously ending with [spoiler], so not cool.  That’s like when you favorite show has “To be continued…” right at the critical plot point.

Still I’m totally vested in these characters now and dying to find out what happens.  I’m worried about how things work out for Dain and Tara/Bonnie and also Akila and Marco.  I also hope there is more about their historical characters because I love the history angle and facts.  That adds a sense of reality to the story which heightens the intensity.

I give this story 4 out of 5 clouds (mostly because of the ending otherwise it would get 5 out of 5).

          Challenge duration: January 1st – June 30th, 2014.

1.       But my book has different page count on Goodreads and Amazon. Whose pagecount is correct?

Your ebook seller's information should be more accurate, use that. If the book's page count is not mentioned anywhere, go by word count. If that's not mentioned anywhere, pick a different book.

2. I can't find a book to read as Nifty Novella. Can I substitute it with Novel Love?

No. Bookseller sites are FULL of free books for each category. They may not be what you would normally read, but this is a challenge. It's not about reading what you want, it's about meeting your target.

3. Can I read books from Netgalley?

No. Netgalley is a platform whose purpose is to sonnect reader/reviewer and publisher, and whoever puts a book up on Netgalley expects the downloader to review it. Thus, all books gotten via Netgalley are downloaded with the purpose of reviewing them.
Trying to reach Niggard Nelly, you will need to read 1 book in all four categories each month. Remaining books may be in any category.

Get Shorty 0 – 70 pages
Nifty Novella 71 – 150 pages
Novel Love 151 – 250 pages
Going Epic 251 + pages

The witch knew she had died.

Wynn’s return to the world of the living is not the only mystery surrounding the fusion of light and dark. Young men and women inexplicably disappear from their homes. Strange noises and moving shadows plague Wynn as she follows Gethin to a castle by the sea to negotiate the futures of Dristol and Irador. A new evil has emerged in the wake of Alexandria’s death, and Wynn must uncover what it is before the fates of the brother kingdoms are irrevocably sealed--in the hands of Chaos.

Author Information:

Alyssa Auch was born and raised in Pennsylvania with loving parents and three hilarious younger siblings. Her imagination was sparked by the lush, green forests and bright colors of her home that often spoke of other worlds only found in the magic of writing. She brought that inspiration into the fantasy novels she so loves to create.

Currently, Alyssa is a senior at Brigham Young University-Idaho studying Marriage and Family Relations with a minor in English. She is married to her High School sweetheart, and they have three beautiful children who keep them both very occupied. Although her novels are often written in the late hours of the night and during cherished naptime blocks, she devotes a very special part of herself to the power of words and love of storytelling.

Review:

So what happens when you change thousands of years of tradition and join forces with your supposed enemy instead of killing or being killed?  Strange and wonderful things.  Well strange anyway.  Wynn and Gethin are supposed to be the Montagues and Capulets or the Hatfields and McCoys.  They are not supposed to fall in love, and they are definitely not supposed to combine their magic, one side is supposed to win.  Going against tradition has some unexpected outcomes.  Is love worth the cost?  Well don’t ask Romeo and Juliet, but read this book to find out if Wynn and Gethin overcome the odds or end up the same.

This is a wonderful follow up to the first book, Lunula by author Alyssa Auch.  The romantic fantasy is a fresh voice in a sometimes overly crowded field.  Her soft touch brings just the right breath of spring to the genre.  This story is fascinating, romantic, sweet, scary, adventurous, and filled with all the magic and fantasy to fulfill every wish.

I give this story 4.5 out of 5 clouds.
