 She’s dead because of me.

Josh Wilkinson is haunted by two words written in still-warm blood: Your fault. Wisdom, an immortal raised by the djinn, has gathered a band of super-powered teenagers to stop the Council of Peacocks, a group of evil sorcerers. After the battle in Thessaloniki, the Council is on the run. Just when final victory appears imminent, Josh’s mother is murdered and the prime suspect is his father. Once Josh was integral to the Council’s plans for world domination. Now Josh learns his cousin, Travis, is the one set to activate the Verdenstab. If he does, the Orpheans, demonic allies to the Council, will escape the Black Sea, a pocket dimension that serves as their prison. In a last-ditch effort to prevent the invasion, Wisdom and Josh use an ancient portal hidden beneath Gobekli Tepe to enter the Black Sea. The rest of the team – a pyrokinetic, a telepath, and a mercenary – head to stop Travis from activating a device. The end is closer than anyone suspects. The Activation is set to happen tomorrow.

About the Book
Title: Witches, Voids and Other Sanity Suckers
Author: Kara Thorpe
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Alpha of the only Shifter pack in Houston, Rick Haskell has his hands full.  When the Mage of New Orleans calls for a favor – a favor that pays $400,000 – Rick can’t refuse.  Even if that favor means adopting the Mage’s daughter into his ragtag pack.  Az Vardan is beautiful, smart, and takes frequent vacations from sanity.  Before Rick can learn how to handle the blonde kiss-and-run firecracker, wolfsbane appears in the local coven’s garden, witches mysteriously die in police custody, and a rash of centaur murders rocks Houston's Paranormal Community.  Az’s knowledge of magic may be all that saves Rick’s pack when a new, powerful threat moves in to take over his city.

First person, present tense
Warning: language, violence, and irreverence (and Oxford commas)

Author Bio
Kara Thorpe started writing as a distraction in French class and never stopped (don't ask her to conjugate many verbs). Born and raised under the South Texas sun, she spends her days navigating Houston traffic and the exciting world of production planning. Nights are for creating character-driven romances and wrangling a stubborn Siamese. Look for Chai's cameo in each story.

Book Excerpts
I’m not alone in the room. Every muscle in my body tenses, ready for action, while my brain rushes to catch up with my instincts. There is no one on the bed. There is something large on the normally bare nightstand on the other side of the bed. The faint aroma of magnolias fills my lungs with every breath.

“Az,” I groan, rolling over onto my side.

The lamp on that side of the room clicks on. Az is cross-legged on the square nightstand. It’s a damn good thing I don’t buy rickety furniture or else her scrawny ass would be on the floor.

“What are you doing here?”

She tosses the heavy book on the bed and stretches her arms up over her head. When she speaks, her tone is frosty.  “Jose sleep licks.”

“Yeah, he does.” Now that I can see her properly, I note that her hair has that distinct just-groomed-by-a-cat look to it.

Her eyes narrow. “Someone could have warned me.”

“Yeah, someone probably could have. Why are you in here, Az?”

She averts her gaze. Color spreads across her cheeks. “You’re peaceful. You spend so much time protecting other people, that maybe I think you need someone to watch over you.” She chuckles softly, twists her fingers together. “I like you.”

“You shouldn’t.”

Her head snaps up. Irritation flashes across her face. “Why not?”

“I’m a Shifter.” Most normal people don’t like Shifters. Witches, warlocks, Mages and other magic users downright hate us. We’re a little too close to wild animals for anyone’s peace of mind. She shouldn’t be comfortable around me.

“You’re a good person. You care for your pack. You help people.” Az rakes her fingers through her hair. “You took in someone you had every right to walk away from. Especially since, to you, I’m like a witch.”

“Oh, Princess, you are unlike any witch I’ve ever met.” I like her, too – her tenacity and her resilience and the way she genuinely cares for my people. She doesn’t cower when I growl, which may or may not be a good thing, and she has a good head for investigative work.  I’m not sure either of us is ready for this sort of conversation, though.

White teeth flash in a brilliant smile. “That is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.”

Well, that’s my good deed for the day. And now I’m awake. So much for kicking Az out and snoozing.

Review:

Absolutely wonderful.  I laughed until I cried.  You will like this book.  Take all the paranormal creatures you know and add them to a void and a shifter pack (void was new to me but a great idea).  Add a pinch of sci-fy and you have this wonderful love story.

I give this book 5 out of 5 clouds.

Meet the Characters of The Guitar Girl

1.     Rhea Shah: 16-year-old Rhea Shah develops a crush on her brother, Robbie's, best friend, Joy Fernandez. She adopts the alias The Guitar Girl in a misguided way to keep a hold on her feelings. Rhea cares about her two best friends, Sophie and Arjav, although the latter knows how to push her buttons. She is pretty awful at hiding her feelings.
2.     Joy Fernandez: 18-year-old Joy is Rhea's brother's best friend, as well as Arjav's cousin. He takes on Rhea as his student, teaching her how to play the guitar, unaware that she harbours feelings for him. He can be pretty dense at times - refusing to see what is really happening right in front of his eyes. He dates a rather crazy girl in college, Rosetta, who later becomes Robbie's girlfriend.
3.     Sophie Ghosh: Rhea's best friend in school, who discovers her secret at the beginning of the novel and keeps encouraging her to confess to Joy about it. Initially united with Rhea on the front by finding Arjav, she begins liking him more than a friend. Both she and Arjav believe in meddling with 'destiny'.
4.     Robbie Shah: Rhea's older brother who has no idea has his sister has fallen for his best friend. He is too preoccupied with his band and his girlfriend, Rosetta, who Joy had dated before him.
5.     Arjav: Rhea's oldest friend, who knows her secret and wants her to tell Joy as well. He and Sophie like each other and likes to meddle with 'Fate'.

Review:

Interesting story with lots of complications.  The only problem I ran into was a formatting issue where some of the lines were stacked so they didn’t read correctly.  That took some getting used to but didn’t really detract from the story.

This was not my favorite point of view and I got confused a few times but overall the writing was great and the story kept my interest.  I would recommend reading it.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.

Book Excerpts

He cleared his throat and took on a stern tone. “Listen, I don’t mean to sour your taste for marriage. All I’m saying is, don’t make the same mistakes I did. You’ve been a hard worker and you’re probably the first person I’ve trusted besides Charlie, Henry, and his wife in a long time. Forget the gold, come work on my ranch. You can live in the main house and cook. I’ll treat you like a son.”

“No.” Her breath hitched. Lying in this wagon for one night was enough to melt a girl’s resolve. Besides, she wouldn’t be able to keep up this deception much longer. “I’m off to make my own fortune.”

“I won’t hurt you. It’s obvious your pa was a drunk and used a switch often, but I would never.”

Bethany’s head swarmed with images of a happy home, of confessing the truth and falling into his arms this night.

“What is it? You can tell me anything. I promise. I’ll never hurt you. Trust me.” His words clutched her heart and squeezed tight.

“You can’t make that promise,” Bethany said while trying to keep her wits. Everything rested on her making it to the gold and striking it rich. Not ending up in the arms of some man who had already proven he’d turn to the bottle when things got tough.

“Bart, I can. We’ve both been through plenty. Perhaps it’s time for us to trust someone.”

“No. The minute you see that girl again you’ll lose your head. You’ve already turned to the bottle. I’m going to find gold and start my life on my terms.” Bethany turned to face away from him. “Go to sleep. I’m not talking about this anymore.”

She concentrated on steadying her breath and not thinking about the handsome man at her side in the darkness. He only spoke words. The first time things got tough he’d turn to a switch or his hand. That’s what all men did once they owned a woman.

Surely not every man. The tingling in her stomach urged her to take a chance, to wrap her arms around him and confess who she really was. Why did this man cause her body to feel these things when no other man had in the past? She wanted to escape into the cold rain to cool her burning skin and rid it of all this desire, but she had to remain in the wagon by Thomas’ side all night. A long and torturous night
